Just sending a 'shout out' to Steve at Rolling Dog Ranch. I have been away for the last week and came back to find my inbox full of submissions from folks following his blog...fantastic! Steve posted a message on his blog at http://blog.rollingdogranch.org/ about my project and the response has been truly amazing. Tonight I'll be doing a lot of reading and sorting and I'm so excited to get to it. I knew I was going to donate some proceeds from this book to an animal welfare group...and I told him this is it. I can think of no more deserving place to support than Rolling Dog Ranch. For those of you who are familiar with them I know you will understand. Off I go to finish my errands so I can get back to work...
Oh, and thanks for sharing your thoughts on the title. It looks like many of you feel the title is derogatory, which is obviously a concern for me. While I feel the term 'broken' does not necessarily mean it needs to be fixed, I want to make sure that I inspire as opposed to offend! So I will revisit this and I will of course welcome your suggestions for a better title.
Welcome!
Broken is a book about dogs. These are survival stories, stories about dogs protecting their loved ones at any cost, and dogs who have changed the lives of people they have encountered. What is more remarkable about these dogs is that they are all challenged. They are blind. Deaf. Missing limbs. Imperfect in any number of ways. And yet they have managed to live in a way that can teach us about living in the moment, revelling in life, letting go of the past and seeing the world as a beautiful place to be.
I AM LOOKING FOR SUBMISSIONS FOR POTENTIAL PUBLICATION. If you know of a remarkable dog who has amazed you with his story, consider sharing it with the world! You are welcome to submit a short outline to be filled in once approved, or a detailed and complete narrative. I cannot accept 'heresay'; all stories must be verifiably sourced. I am especially interested in tales that move and inspire people without heartbreak. No death scenes, please! (My 'pet' peeve is a dog story with a sad ending.)
Please e-mail your submission to brokendogstories@gmail.com .
